Clinical Safety

CEMBooks V2 has been designed in line with the DCB0129 standard for the manufacturer of Health IT systems.  A full Hazard log, and accompanying clinical safety case is available.  Deploying organisations should involve their clinical safety officer in the design phase of implementation to ensure safe roll out across the organisation.

Clinical safety of Health IT systems  is often poorly understood within clinical teams.  The CEMBooks team recommends the NHS Clinical Safety training courses as a great introduction to clinical safety through a blended learning approach.

Clinical safety involves the consideration of what could go wrong, the significance if it does, what might happen to cause this and how could you mitigate against this through design or mitigate the effects if it does occur.  It is an interesting mix of risk management, process design and clinical knowledge.
