CEMBooks in the ED at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust

The OUH ED team have been using CEMBooks for over 6 years and have fully migrated across to CEMBooks V2 in the last 12 months.

The aim was to improve operational communication and awareness of events that were occurring on shift or that were impacting on delivery of emergency care across the organisation. This included the 2 ED’s and Emergency assessment units. CEMBooks also allowed the team to document their Huddles at the Horton Hospital site and share bed availability through this customised log. Specialty interaction logs allowed for the recording of positive and negative behaviors by in-patient teams in relation to the organisations internal professional standards.

The routine use of CEMBooks for operational shift communication has fundamentally improved our internal communication and enabled us to engage with and hear from a far wider group of staff. In addition the new ability to define and create custom logs has allowed us to track and quantify issues important to us in a way that was previously impossible.

The Problem

To have a single view of what was happening in all emergency departments and emergency assessment areas across the Trust.

Split sites and responsibility for both ED’s and assessment units meant it was difficult to capture all the information in one place.

The Solution

CEMBooks V2 with situation reports implemented across Emergency departments and emergency assessment units.
Customised logs built for Specialty interactions, ad hoc updates and site huddles.
